Grizel: Irelands Pig-Faced Lady
At The Edge Theater 5451 N Broadway, Chicago: March 17th-21st 7.30pm
Across shifting eras and theatrical styles, the myth of Grizel, the so-called pig-faced lady of Ireland, mutates through rumour, sexism, and spectacle. Based on a True Story
Grizel: Ireland’s Pig-Faced Lady is an absurd, time-bending dark comedy that reclaims the real history of Grizel Steevens, an 18th-century Dublin woman whose generosity helped found Ireland’s first volunteer-based hospital—but whose legacy was overshadowed by the misogynistic rumour that she had the face of a pig.
